This can ensure fluid continues to cycle through the engine and prevents pooling.

Starting your car’s engine on a regular basis also protects your battery.

If possible, go for a short drive, just long enough to get it warmed up. This will keep the battery charged and reduce the likelihood of it running flat.

Tyre pressure

Did you know if you don’t move your car for over a month you can start to get flat spots on your tyres? (The term ‘flat spot’ refers to a badly worn section of a tyre tread.)

Your tyres naturally lose air – that’s why it’s important to check their pressure regularly and ensure they align with the manufacture’s recommendations.

Fill up the tank

It may seem silly spending money on fuel if you’re not planning on driving however its important to help keep your car healthy.

Filling up your tank helps prevent corrosion in your car’s fuel lines and engine, and the build-up of condensation, while also helping reduce the chance of rusting.

General car maintenance

Although you may not be driving and adding kilometres to your car, it’s important to keep up with its regular servicing schedule. Check the manufacture’s handbook – most will tell you in both time and kilometres when your next service is due.

In-between servicing makes sure you are still checking your cars oil. Keep tabs on the colour, if it begins to look black and dirty, it’s time to change.

It also pays to keep a close eye on windscreen wiper fluid and brake fluid, both of these items deteriorate with age and should be replaced.

If you’re finding the costs of maintaining your car is exceeding the benefit of owning there has never been a better time to sell.
